September 28, 2009 – RADA Architects and RADA Development are proud to announce that Clybourn Point Condominiums and Mixed Use Development have been awarded a LEED® Silver certification established by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). LEED is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
City of Chicago Alderman, Walter Burnett, Jr. was quoted, “[that] being one of the first new buildings in the Clybourn Corridor, next to the changing Cabrini Green, Clybourn Point has set a standard for urban renewal and socially conscious design.” This is also the first multi-unit residential building in Chicago to achieve LEED certification.
Clybourn Point Condominiums achieved certification for reduced energy use, lighting efficiency, water use reduction, and responsible material use as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies. By using less energy and water, LEED certified buildings save money for families, businesses and taxpayers; reducing greenhouse gas emissions; and contribute to a healthier environment for residents, workers and the larger community.
"Clybourn Point’s LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. The urgency of USGBC’s mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Clybourn Point serves as a prime example of just how much we can accomplish.
LEED® Silver Certification of Clybourn Point was based on a number of green design and construction features:

- Green Roof to reduce the urban heat island effect and to reduce the storm water runoff
- Photovoltaic Cells to generate electricity on site
- Urban Infill Property to promote densification
- Recycled Content in the materials of the building
- Use of Regional Materials to reduce transportation emissions
- High efficiency windows and envelope to Improve Energy Performance
- Energy Star Appliances and EcoElevator to reduce energy usage
